WHAT: THE EXTENSION OF WELAUNEE BOULEVARD AND A
MASSIVE 5-POINT ROUNDABOUT AT THE
CENTERVILLE / ROBERTS / BRADFORDVILLE INTERSECTION
WHAT WILL THIS MEAN TO OUR RURAL COMMUNITY?
- 16,000 cars daily on Bradfordville Road and likely a future 4-laning;
- The violation of the “PERPETUAL” Conservation Easement that CeRCA secured in 1999 through a Settlement Agreement with the City and Leon County School Board. This buffer, tree and wildlife preserve, and educational outdoor classroom will no longer be viable! If our elected officials can get away with this, how can we ever trust them to keep their word to us citizens?;
- The sacrifice of our rural lifestyle to shuttle Suburban traffic from the Bannerman Rd./Thomasville Rd. corridor through our neighborhood so commuters can drive through Welaunee to get to work every day;
- Major impacts to 2 Historical Farms (National Register) and a Historical African-American Church (St. Peters AME Church) whose property will be taken for the 5-WAY ROUNDABOUT;
- Destruction to the Historical Road of Centerville, a beloved Canopy Road, for the sake of more easily moving traffic from other areas;
- Destruction of numerous patriarch oaks at Centerville Rd. for the construction of the Roundabout;
- Ultimately, development pressure along Bradfordville Road for commercial development instead of protecting our rural homesteads;
- The Welaunee Blvd. was included as a two-phase project in the 2014 sales tax extension. Phase I extends from Fleischman Rd. to Shamrock Rd. Phase II, from Shamrock to Roberts Rd. was to be built about 20 years later. Instead, pressure from Killearn Estates HOA in January 2020, resulted in our elected officials moving the Phase II extension to Phase I. Why are the TAXPAYERS footing the bill NOW for a road that won’t be needed for DECADES? Why isn’t this money being used for more pressing community needs ELSEWHERE, like the Southside?
- When did this community start SUBSIDIZING roads with TAXPAYERS’ DOLLARS for private developers?
We are asking you to help us get our Commissioners to SLOW THIS PROJECT DOWN so better options can be found.
We are citizens of NE Leon County who have been effectively ignored and left out of the decision-making process!
